Court Adjourns Jere Reps Primary Suit Over Non-Service of Respondents

The Federal High Court has adjourned proceedings in a suit challenging the conduct of the House of Representatives primary election for Jere Federal Constituency over the failure to serve some of the respondents with the court processes.

Counsel to the applicant told journalists after the proceedings that four applications were scheduled for hearing, but the matter could not proceed because some of the respondents had not been served.

He said the processes had been served on some of the respondents, while others, including the ADC chairman of Jere Local Government Area, the state chairman of the party and the party’s House of Representatives candidate, Muhammad Nur Deribe, were yet to be served.

The court subsequently adjourned the matter to September 24, 2026, to enable the applicants serve the outstanding respondents.

The applicants are challenging the conduct of the ADC primary election for Jere Federal Constituency, alleging that no primary election was conducted.

They are asking the court to nullify the purported primary election and order the conduct of a fresh primary.

One of the applicants, Dr Muhammad Shejema, said he expected the court to deliver justice after hearing the evidence and submissions of the parties.

He said the applicants were prepared to present evidence and other relevant materials before the court to support their case.

“We are law-abiding citizens. We cannot do anything outside the law. Therefore, we will pursue our rights through the legal process,” he said.
