Damaturu residents pledge support for Wali
Residents of Alimarami Housing Estate in Damaturu, Yobe, have pledged their support for Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2027 election.
The residents made the declaration on Tuesday when a delegation comprising elders, youths, women and other stakeholders from the estate paid a courtesy visit to Wali in Damaturu.
Leader of the delegation, Alhaji Ali Ibrahim, described Alimarami Housing Estate as one of the oldest residential communities in the state.
Ibrahim said the estate comprised 252 houses and was established by the late Sen. Bukar Abba Ibrahim, a former governor of the state.
He commended the administration of Gov. Mai Mala Buni for projects aimed at improving living conditions in the estate.
He listed the provision of boreholes, construction of road networks, installation of solar-powered streetlights and completion of the Juma’at Mosque as some of the interventions.
Ibrahim said the mosque had become a symbol of unity and brotherhood among residents.
He said the community’s decision to support Wali was based on his experience, leadership record and capacity to sustain and build on the achievements of successive administrations in the state.
“We have seen his track record, we have seen his loyalty and we have seen his capacity.
“He understands governance, he knows Yobe, and Yobe knows him. He is the best man to consolidate on the achievements of Gov. Mai Mala Buni,” he said.
Responding, Wali thanked the residents for the visit and for expressing confidence in his governorship ambition.
He described the estate as a historic community with a special place in the development of Damaturu.
Wali assured the delegation of his commitment to continuity, consolidation and development, saying he would work to extend the benefits of democratic governance to communities across the state.
“You are not just supporting me; you are supporting continuity, you are supporting progress and you are supporting a greater Yobe. I will never let you down,” he said.
He urged the residents to participate actively in the electoral process and mobilise support for the APC at all levels.
The visit ended with residents chanting solidarity songs and offering prayers for Wali’s success, while reaffirming their declaration of “100 per cent support for BMW”, a slogan associated with the APC candidate.
