Plan International has enrolled over 7,000 out-of-school children in a non-formal education program across Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states within the past few years.

The Project Coordinator of the organisation, Mr Gambo Daniel, disclosed this at a closing ceremony of a two-day workshop on Tuesday in Damaturu, Yobe state capital.

Daniel, stated that the Education Cannot Wait (ECW) project, funded by the global education fund, aims to support both in-school and out-of-school children in building learning resilience and acquiring skills for self-reliance.

The program has received praise from participants, including Alhaji Sabo Usman, Education Secretary of Bade Local Government Area in Yobe, who noted that Plan International has helped keep children off the streets and taught them basic literacy skills and self-reliance trades.

Mr. Gonna Zakawa, a community leader from Adamawa, acknowledged that the insurgency had led to widespread poverty and school dropout, but credited Plan International’s intervention with enabled parents to send their children back to school.

Sadiq Umar, a beneficiary and a student from Maiduwa Primary School in Fika Local Government, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn and appealed for more children to be enrolled in the program.

The ECW project has made significant strides in promoting education and skill acquisition for vulnerable children in the Northeast region.
