Yobe Govt trains health mistresses, career guidance officers on adolescent health
Yobe State Government, in collaboration with the AGILE Project, funded by Lafiya UK Programme, has conducted a one-day orientation on safeguarding principles for 175 health mistresses and career guidance officers of adolescent girls’ schools.
Dr Babakundi Machina, the Executive Secretary, Yobe Primary Healthcare Board (YSPHB), disclosed this at the training venue on Sunday in Damaturu.
He said the orientation programme for school adolescent girls would be carried out across the three senatorial districts of the state.
Machina said the orientation would focus on promoting healthy habits among adolescents, including personal hygiene.
The executive secretary urged the participants to pay close attention to the training for maximum benefits, adding that they were expected to share the acquired knowledge and skills with their colleagues.
Mrs Maryam Bulus, the School Health Services Coordinator, YSPHB, said schools were communities where children spent most of their time.
“With this training, we want to ensure that participants create a healthy environment in schools and that students know that their health is safeguarded just like in their homes,” she said.
One of the participants, Malam Hadiza Aliyu, from a civil society organisation, described the training as a great opportunity for her as a social worker.
Aliyu said her organisation visited schools to orient students on various aspects of life, including health and environmental issues.
