Yobe will host the 5th edition of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, has said.

Bego made this known on Wednesday in Damaturu shortly after the inaugural meeting of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the event.

He said the forum, scheduled for the week of Oct. 14 to 18, would bring together key stakeholders to address critical issues affecting the Lake Chad Basin region.

Bego also said the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum is a regional platform aimed at fostering cooperation, peacebuilding, and sustainable development among Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon.

He added that the LOC, chaired by Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam-Wali, comprised representatives from Yobe and Borno states, and other key stakeholders.

The commissioner reaffirmed Gov Mai Mala Buni’s commitment to hosting a successful and impactful forum, reflecting the region’s dedication to peace, stability, and prosperity.

Earlier at the opening, Mallam-Wali, the LOC chairman, emphasised the importance of the forum in promoting regional stability and development, expressing confidence in the LOC’s ability to deliver a successful event.

He added that the committee resolved to work closely with the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and other relevant agencies to ensure the forum’s success.

The chairman highlighted the key areas include proposed dates, LOC structure, venue, accommodation, logistics, security, and health services.
