NRCS trains members on emergency response in Yobe State

The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has trained its newly elected members on emergency response in Yobe state.

Mr Prince Adeaga, the National President of NRCS made this known at the induction of newly elected members of the branch governing board in Damaturu on Saturday.

Adeaga, represented by Barr Muazu Dikwa, the National Legal Adviser said the new engagement team that had also been recruited to provide day-to-day services and coordinate interventions of the national society in Yobe.

He said the Red Cross was a society that supported humanitarian activities, describing the Yobe branch as one of the critical branches in the base states.

“There is a need for us to have a good structure and good management so that humanitarian support will be achieved within the state and the region,” he said.

Dikwa also said in its effort to support government, NRCS had paid courtesy visits to state government, traditional rulers, heads of government agencies of both states and federal level among other stakeholders to solicit for their support and cooperation.

He explained that as part of the commemoration of the induction, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), a partner, had donated a hall for the purpose of meetings and conferences.

He added that hall was named after the branch chairman, Justice Ibrahim Jauro, for his dedication, hard work and sacrifice for the support of the branch as well as the national society in achieving its activities.

The NRCS Secretary General, Mr Abubakar Konde, said the aim of the induction was to give the participants an inspiration, to motivate them to be able to undertake the obligation and responsibilities of the Red Cross in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“As you may be aware that the national society was established by an act of parliament, the act states clearly our roles and responsibilities in humanitarian services complementing the government’s efforts,” he said.

Another aim of the training, according to him was to let the participants understand the need to reach out to government and other international agencies in the state when the need arises.

“Currently, the state is experiencing flooding in some parts, the victims need to be evaluated to avoid being trapped among other emergencies,” Konde added.

In his remarks, the Branch Chairman, Justice Ibrahim Jauro, congratulated the new members and urged them to be committed, dedicated and good ambassadors of the society.

Jauro, represented by Mr Mulima Mato, the Branch Vice Chairman thanked the national president and the secretary general for their presence and enormous contribution during the induction.

He also extended appreciation to the entire Yobe branch team and the management for their cooperation and hard work towards achieving the set goals.

Jauro called on the participants to double up their efforts, utilise the skills and knowledge they learned throughout the session.

He urged them to step down the knowledge to their respective divisions in their various local governments.

One of the participants, Malama Fatima Gulani, expressed her appreciation for the NRCS management and team.

She described the training as ‘incredibly beneficial’, as it clarified the roles and responsibilities of everyone involved.
