NEDC, Yobe Govt Collaborate to Evacuation Drainages to Prevent Flooding
The North-East Development Commission (NEDC), supported by the Yobe State Government, has begun evacuating drainages and culverts in major towns to avert flooding.
NEDC State Coordinator, Mr. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, disclosed this while inspecting the ongoing evacuation in Damaturu, saying the commission aims to evaluate 15 km of drainages in various locations.
The exercise, also ongoing in other major towns, aims to support the state government’s efforts in preventing flooding.
Abbas added that the exercise has provided job opportunities for youths and health benefits to the community.
Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Sidi Karasuwa, commended NEDC for the initiative and urged the public to avoid dumping garbage in waterways.
Alhaji Babagana Modu, the General Management state Sanitation and Environmental Protection Agency said the Agency planned to revive the mandatory monthly sanitation exercise and review obsolete policies to ensure compliance.
