Yobe Government Condemns Sahara Reporters’ Falsehood

The Yobe State Government has strongly condemned a recent publication by Sahara Reporters, alleging zero expenditure on basic education in the state while a huge sum was spent on other areas.

In a statement issued by the Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, the government described the report as “a deliberate falsehood and a flagrant abuse of journalism ethics.”

The statement noted that the publication had intentionally presented a misleading document with tiny, unreadable characters, making it difficult for readers to verify the claims.

“While the document does show expenditure on sitting allowances and construction of presidential chalets, it conspicuously omits any information regarding expenditure on basic education,” the statement said.

The government explained that it had, in fact, invested significant funds in basic education in the past three quarters, including procurement of instructional materials, rehabilitation of schools, payment of tuition and registration fees, and contribution to UBEC counterpart funds.

The statement emphasised that schools across the state are open and functioning, with increased enrollment and improved learning environments.

The government urged the public to disregard the false report and rely on credible sources of information.

It also called on media organizations to uphold journalistic integrity and avoid spreading misinformation.
