The Bauchi State Government Technical Working Group (TWG) for the Review of Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Policy has emphasized the need for Public Private Partnership (PPP) to enhance the WASH sector in the state.

The Chairman of the Group ,Alhaji Samaila Tela made the call at a meeting of the TWG for WASH Policy review in Bauchi, stressing that the government cannot achieve this goal alone.

“The government cannot do it alone; there are a lot of opportunities out there to support the sector.

“We need to partner with private organizations to improve the WASH sector in the state.”Alhaji Tela said.

He stressed that the call for private partnership is seen as a significant step towards achieving the state government’s goals in the WASH sector.

With the support of private organizations, the state government hopes to improve the lives of millions of people in Bauchi State.

The TWG, supported by Wateraid Nigeria, aims to prioritize sustainable WASH service delivery for the people of Bauchi State,

With the ultimate goal of achieving universal access to WASH for all, in line with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.

Mr. Adamu Ali, Secretary of the group, said this would ensure that the Principles of African Sanitation Policy Guidelines (ASPG) are reflected in the policy being developed, in line with the policy improvement plan.

The policy would capture every aspect of water sanitation and hygiene across the service chain and ladder, with aspirations towards safety-managed sanitation.

“The policy will ensure that every aspect of water sanitation and hygiene is captured, from the service chain to the ladder, with a focus on safety-managed sanitation,” Mr. Ali said.

This initiative is part of the National Action Plan for the Revitalization of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector, launched by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2018.

The plan aims to address the WASH crisis in the country, with a focus on governance, sustainability, sanitation, funding, and financing, as well as monitoring and evaluation.

The Bauchi State Government supported by Wateraid Nigeria has been working to improve the WASH sector in the state, with a focus on increasing access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene.

The state government has also been working to strengthen the capacity of local government areas to deliver WASH services.
