Yobe Govt to Renovate NUJ Secretariat
The Yobe State government has finalized plans to renovate and reconstruct parts of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in the state.
This development was disclosed by Comrade Rajab Mohammed Ismail, Chairman of the NUJ Yobe State Council, during a visit by engineers from Gwaram Engineering Company to the secretariat on Thursday in Damaturu.
According to him, the renovation project includes the reconstruction of the NUJ’s chalet, which will serve as accommodation for visiting journalists, and the renovation of offices that will be used by correspondents and women journalists (NAWOJ).
“The project was initially announced by Governor Mai Mala Buni during a visit to the press center a few years ago.” he the Chairman added.
Ismail expressed gratitude to Governor Buni, his deputy, and other state officials for their support, saying, “We appreciate the support given to journalists in the state, and we are confident that the renovated press center will provide a conducive atmosphere for us to disseminate our reports to the public.”
The team of engineers, led by Project Manager Abdullahi Musa, assessed the site and determined that the chalet would need to be rebuilt from scratch, while other buildings would require maintenance to restore them to good condition.
Musa said Gwaram Engineering Company has handled several projects for the Yobe State government, including the recent reconstruction of five units of five-bedroom buildings at the presidential lodge and the construction of the governor’s wing at the government house in Damaturu.
