The State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Yobe, Muhammad Tikau, has lauded the vital role of women worldwide, with particular focus on their contributions in Nigeria and Yobe state.

Tikau made the commendation on the occasion of this year’s International Women’s Day, celebrated on Saturday in Damaturu.

In his message, Tikau called on national leaders to support and accelerate efforts aimed at promoting gender equality, emphasising its essential role in the country’s development.

He also highlighted the urgent need to eliminate harmful practices against women, such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV), describing them as serious violations of women’s rights.

“These acts are forms of violence against women, and they are among the issues the National Orientation Agency is consistently addressing, with the goal of eradicating them completely,” Tikau said.

The director sent his best wishes to Nigerian women, expressing hope that they would continue to make significant contributions to the social and economic development of the nation.

“Happy International Women’s Day to all Nigerian women,”he added.
