The Jigawa State Government has reinforced its commitment to addressing the escalating tensions between local farmers and foreign herders by implementing stricter regulations on livestock rearing.

Gov. Umar, in a statement on Friday, emphasized the need for urgent action to mitigate the economic and social challenges faced by residents due to unregulated herding activities.

“One major concern is the nighttime movement of cattle, which has been prohibited because it contributes to accidents and loss of lives,” he said.

The governor stressed that all herders operating in the state, whether local or foreign, must strictly adhere to the existing regulations. He noted that despite efforts to register herders and local farmers before they enter designated areas, unauthorized individuals still infiltrate, leading to destruction of farmlands and conflicts.

“We need protection. We have started analyzing the situation to ensure full compliance with regulations,” he added.

Gov. Umar reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to collaborate with security agencies and community leaders to enforce these measures and promote peaceful coexistence.
