Bauchi university pledges strong support for violence prevention

The Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Bauchi, has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing peace and stability within its campus and the wider Bauchi State by supporting proactive violence prevention efforts.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fatimah Tahir, made this pledge through her representative, Dr. Musa Adamu Wunti, during a two-day workshop themed “Re-understanding Violence Prevention through a Health Lens.” in Bauchi

The event was organized by Forward Action for Conservation of Indigenous Species (FACIS) in partnership with SAZU and other stakeholders.

Prof. Tahir praised FACIS for choosing SAZU as a host, highlighting that addressing violence through education and community engagement is vital for the progress of the state.

She assured that the university remains committed to backing programmes that cultivate peace and social harmony.

Tahir urged participating students to take the workshop seriously and see themselves as ambassadors of peace in their communities.

She noted that the training would equip them with practical knowledge and skills to tackle violence-related issues constructively.

The Vice Chancellor further thanked FACIS for its innovative approach and pledged sustained collaboration to ensure long-term impact.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Salisu Ibrahim Waziri, Senior Technical Advisor at FACIS, explained that the organization adopts a health-oriented perspective to tackle violence, grounded in extensive research.

He said SAZU was selected because of its vibrant student bodies such as the Students Environmental Conservation Club and the Peace Volunteer Club, which actively promote social responsibility.

The participants described the workshop as timely and essential, expressing hope that the knowledge gained would translate into practical actions that contribute to a more peaceful Bauchi State.
