The Nigerian Army used this year’s Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) in Damaturu to showcase military career opportunities to secondary school students, with senior officers making a strong pitch for youth enlistment.

Lieutenant Colonel MA Saleh of Sector 2 JTF Operation Hadin Kai engaged students from selected schools, detailing the Army’s rich history, recruitment requirements and benefits of military service.

He emphasized the force’s constitutional role in defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity while highlighting NADCEL’s dual purpose of honoring fallen heroes and engaging communities.

The presentation traced the Army’s evolution from its colonial-era origins to its modern structure, with particular emphasis on career paths available to young Nigerians.

Saleh explained entry requirements for both non-officer and officer cadres, including age limits, educational qualifications and physical standards.

He particularly encouraged female students to consider military careers, noting the Army’s need for professionals across all fields.

School administrators welcomed the initiative, with Government Girls Unity College Principal Hajiya Ladi Ghali making an impassioned case for female participation.

“Our girls must know they can serve this nation just as well as their male counterparts,” she said.
