FedPoly Damaturu eallies experts on revitalising technical education

The Federal Polytechnic Damaturu has commenced a three-day National Conference on Multidisciplinary Approaches to revitalise technical education and skill development for sustainable growth in Nigeria.

The Rector of the institution, Dr Ibrahim Bashir made disclosed on Friday, the second day of the conference in Damaturu.

Our Correspondent reports that the conference themed “Revitalization of Quality Technical Education and Skills for Sustainable Growth and Development in Nigeria: A Multidisciplinary Approach.” commenced on Wednesday.

The Rector, represented by his Deputy, Dr Shettima Ali, reaffirmed the polytechnic’s commitment to strengthening technical education through its Entrepreneurship Development Centre and Vocational and Skill Acquisition Centres.

According to him, the centres are not only designed to benefit students, but also to empower members of the host community with practical and employable skills.

He urged participants to maximise the knowledge-sharing opportunities the conference presents in order to drive innovation and policy development in the sector.

“Stakeholders must rise to the occasion and forge a collaborative path that addresses the challenges bedevilling technical education in Nigeria,” he said.

Earlier, Mr Bukar Yusuf, Dean of the School of General and Remedial Studies, commended the efforts of the organisers and participants, and stressed the need for infrastructural development and economic growth through education.

In his keynote address, Dr Abdulfatah Udua of the Department of Marketing, underscored the critical role of government and development agencies in the revitalisation of technical education.

He noted that policy reforms, industry linkages, and sustained partnerships were vital to repositioning the sector for national development.

In his paper presentation, Mr Abdulkarim Umar advocated for greater synergy among stakeholders, saying such collaboration was key to implementing practical solutions to identified challenges.

Our Correspondent also reports that the conference brought together academics, policymakers, industry practitioners, and students from across the country to deliberate on actionable strategies for advancing technical education in Nigeria.
