By Baba Dan’iya
The Executive Director, Media and Disability Care Initiative (MEDCI), an NGO, Mr Rajab Mohammed Isma’il, has commended the Yobe Government for its ongoing road construction projects, particularly in rural areas of the state.
Mr Isma’il gave the commendation on Saturday in Potiskum while leading a media team on an inspection tour of some completed and ongoing road construction projects executed by the state government.
Among the projects visited were the 2.5-kilometre Potiskum to Ngojin road and the 5-kilometre Fadawa to Daya road, both executed by the state Ministry of Works through direct labour.
The MEDCI boss noted that the roads are critical to rural development and would improve access to healthcare, education, and markets for agrarian communities.
Speaking during the visit, Malam Bulama Haruna, the community leader of Ngojin B, expressed appreciation to the government of Gov. Mai Mala Buni for the intervention. He said the road construction had brought relief to residents who previously faced difficulties accessing other areas, especially during the rainy season.
“Before now, such development only happened in other places. During the rains, it was almost impossible to go in or out of Ngojin,” he said.
A resident of Ngojin, Abdullahi Mohammed, described the road project as one of the most impactful developments in the area in nearly a century.
He noted that the 2.5km road had improved transportation of farm produce and movement of patients, adding that agriculture remains the community’s major occupation.
Similarly, Malam Idi Muhammed Madaki, a resident of Daya community, lauded the Buni-led administration for constructing the 5km Fadawa to Daya road.
He said the community had long awaited such development since the creation of Yobe State, and that the realisation of the project during the current administration was a milestone.
“We thank Governor Buni and all those who made this possible, especially the Commissioner for Works,” he said.
Also speaking, Engr Saleh Mustapha, the Resident Engineer of the 5km Fadawa to Daya road project, said the work was progressing according to plan and would be completed within the stipulated timeline and quality standards.
