The Media and Disability Care Initiative (MEDCI), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), on Saturday conducted a free ICT training for young computer and mobile phone technicians, including persons with disabilities, in Damaturu.
The event also featured the distribution of fully licensed computer and mobile phone software to the beneficiaries.
The Head of ICT at MEDCI, Mr Iliyasu Zanna, led the training sessions and supervised the distribution of the software tools.
Zanna said the gesture was part of the organisation’s efforts to bridge the digital divide and promote inclusive development across Yobe and beyond.
“This is more than just software. It’s about empowering youths—especially those living with disabilities—to thrive in the digital age. We’re ensuring they’re not left behind,” he said.
He emphasised the importance of digital tools in modern business, stressing that access to genuine software enhances productivity, professionalism and long-term growth.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the opportunity, describing it as a rare and timely intervention.
A visually impaired mobile phone technician, who participated in the training, said the support had boosted his confidence and improved his business prospects.
“This is the first time I’m receiving genuine software without having to pay a fortune. This gesture gives me confidence and strengthens my business,” he said.
The programme is part of MEDCI’s wider initiative to empower marginalised communities through access to digital resources, vocational training and social inclusion.
The NGO has continued to stand out in the area of grassroots innovation and inclusive development, especially in underserved areas of the North-East.
