Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has urged newly sworn-in members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state to see their posting as a divine opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national development and unity.

Buni made the call on Friday during the formal opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream I corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Dazigau.

The governor, who was represented by Alhaji Barma Shettima, Commissioner Ministry of Youth and Sports, congratulated the corps members on their academic successes, which qualified them for national service.

“I sincerely welcome you to Yobe State. I urge you to see your deployment to this state as the will of God.

“This is a clarion call to contribute your quota towards building a better and greater Nigeria,” Buni said.

He noted that the three-week orientation exercise would require corps members to demonstrate strength, discipline, tolerance and sacrifice, all of which are essential to nation-building.

“All registered corps members in camp are expected to undergo intensive training, ranging from military drills and leadership development to entrepreneurship, language acquisition and professional skills training,” he said.

Buni reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to continually upgrade camp facilities and improve the overall welfare of corps members to ensure a conducive environment for learning and training.

Also speaking at the occasion, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Alhaji Barma Shettima, represented by Alhaji Muhammed Balumi, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry described the NYSC as a vital institution that fosters national integration and youth development.

“The Scheme remains a major unifier in our country’s efforts to dismantle ethnic, religious and sectional barriers.

“Over time, it has re-oriented young minds towards national goals and aspirations,” Shettima said.

He charged the corps members to take the orientation course seriously, describing it as an opportunity for self-development and positive transformation.

“Be mindful that your actions during and after the service year will shape the perception and impact of the Scheme.

“Strive to uphold its core values, as they form the foundation of your leadership journey,” he added.

The commissioner assured the corps members of the government’s unwavering commitment to their safety and welfare throughout their service year.

“I have directed all security agencies and community leaders to ensure a peaceful and enabling environment for all corps members.

“Government will continue to upgrade camp facilities to promote effective learning,” he said.

Shettima also expressed appreciation to the Chief Judge of Yobe for administering the Oath of Allegiance and to all dignitaries present for their continued support to the NYSC Scheme in the state.

He thereafter declared the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream I orientation course in Yobe State open and wished all corps members a successful stay in the state.
