Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has approved a grand reception in honour of Nafisa Abdallah and Rukayya Muhammad Fema, winners of the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in English language skills and debate competitions, respectively.

The two students, aged 17 and 15, emerged overall best in their respective categories at the global event held in London, United Kingdom, where they represented Nigeria and triumphed over 20,000 participants from 69 countries.

Both students are beneficiaries of the Yobe State Government scholarship scheme and currently enrolled at the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), Mamudo.

Buni, in a statement issued by his Director General, Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, described their outstanding performance as a great honour to Yobe State and Nigeria.

“These are great feats that make us proud and justify the government’s investment in the education sector,” Buni said.

He reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring access to quality education by subsidising learning for all children in the state.

According to him, the government has reconstructed schools destroyed by insurgency, provided furniture, books, laboratory equipment, and recruited more qualified teachers to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.

“This is a continuous process, and we appeal to parents to complement our efforts by supporting the education of their children,” the governor said.

Buni also noted that 890 students, including Nafisa and Rukayya, are currently enjoying full tuition scholarships at NTIC under the state’s educational intervention programme.

He added that about 40,000 students of Yobe origin are currently on scholarship, studying various courses in universities and tertiary institutions within Nigeria and abroad.

The governor recalled that recently, the state celebrated the graduation of 167 scholarship beneficiaries in medical sciences, computer science, and engineering from universities in India.

He commended the students for bringing international recognition to Yobe through their excellence and reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to invest more in human capital development.
