
Yobe student wins global debate award in London

Damaturu, Aug 5, 2025 (NAN) Fifteen-year-old Rukayya Fema, a student from Yobe, has emerged overall best in debate at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.
Rukayya, who represented Nigeria at the international competition, is a Junior Secondary School Three (JSS 3) student of Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (NTIC), Mamudo, in Potiskum Local Government Area.
She hails from Ngelzarma in Fune Local Government Area of Yobe.
The feat was confirmed by the Principal of NTIC Mamudo, Mr Haseebullah Jogi, who led the students to the event in London.
“Indeed, Rukayya Muhammad Fema won overall in the debate category, while other students like Nafisa Abdullahi Aminu also emerged winners in different categories,” Jogi said.
He commended the performance of the students and their teachers, describing the achievement as a source of pride to the institution and the country.
“A huge congratulations to our brilliant students and their dedicated teachers for these remarkable achievements.
“We are very proud of them, and plans are underway to celebrate them in our own way,” he said.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Rukayya’s performance stood out among participants from various countries, earning her the top honour in the debate segment of the global competition.
Her success comes on the heels of another victory by her schoolmate, Nafisa Abdullahi Aminu, who was named the overall best in the Spelling Bee category at the same event.
The TeenEagle Global Finals is an international academic competition that brings together outstanding students from across the world to showcase their skills in debate, public speaking, spelling, and other categories.
