Mai Bukar Memorial Boarding Science Primary School, Machina, has held its 15th Graduation Ceremony and Prize Giving Day, celebrating a major milestone in its history.
Established in 2005 by Hajiya Inna Mai Bukar, a former Education Secretary and former Caretaker Committee Chairperson of Machina Local Government Area, the school began with 90 pupils to promote science and technology education.
The school initially ceased boarding operations due to administrative changes but resumed about three years ago through the efforts of the Local Government Council, led by Hon. Bukar A. Bukar, and support from philanthropists, in line with Gov. Mai Mala Buni’s education policy.
Bukar, alongside Liman Alhaji Dabuwa, Managing Director of Damuli Investment Company Ltd., has since worked to maintain the school’s objectives, with 69 per cent of pupils drawn from rural, less privileged backgrounds.
Speaking at the event, Buni, represented by the Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Abba Idriss Adam, lauded the school’s performance and thanked all contributors to its revival.
He said his administration had prioritised education, rehabilitated the school, improved facilities, enhanced welfare, and approved a monthly N10 million running cost to cover feeding, teaching materials and maintenance.
“This intervention ensures academic activities run without disruption and pupils learn in dignity. I am also donating N2 million personally to the school,” the governor said.
In his address, Chairman of Machina Local Government Council, Idriss Mai Bukar, represented by the Director of Personnel Management, Mohammed Yaro, praised those who made the school thrive after over a decade of dormancy.
Headmaster Musa Umar expressed gratitude for graduating the first set of pupils trained under the school’s original vision, thanking the governor, the founder, and other benefactors.
At the event, Dabuwa presented a donation worth about N33 million, including a bank cheque, food items, laptops, and teaching materials.
The occasion featured dramas, debates, pi number presentations and performances by pupils, with awards presented to the governor, the founder, Dabuwa, and Dr. Kole Shettima of the MacArthur Foundation.
Dabuwa said his contributions were motivated by Buni’s commitment to revamping education and his desire to support community development.
