The National Universities Commission (NUC) has begun a verification exercise at the proposed Dolphin Maria University, Bauchi, an institution designed to provide exclusive higher education opportunities for women and promote girl-child education in Nigeria.

The exercise, led by the Acting Director of Establishment of Private Universities, Mr. Samuel Adejoh, took place on Wednesday to assess the institution’s readiness for licensing and commencement of academic activities.

Promoter and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Alhassan Mohammed, said the university’s vision is to bridge the educational gap between male and female students, particularly in northern Nigeria where cultural barriers limit girls’ access to higher education.

“Our goal is to establish a 100 percent female university that provides young and married women the platform to excel academically and professionally,” he said.

Mohammed added that Dolphin Maria University is ready to begin operations once it secures NUC’s approval, emphasizing that its facilities meet the commission’s checklist.

If approved, Dolphin Maria University will join the ranks of a few private all-female universities in Nigeria, providing a safe and supportive learning environment aimed at nurturing future female leaders, professionals, and innovators.
