Engr. Mustapha Abdullahi, newly elected Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Damaturu Branch, on Tuesday pledged to strengthen the engineering profession through capacity building, mentorship and partnerships.

Abdullahi made the commitment in his inaugural speech during the inauguration of new executive officers and induction of new members of the branch in Damaturu.

He said the new leadership would consolidate on past gains and open new frontiers to make the branch more visible in advancing engineering solutions to societal challenges.

“Our mission is to strengthen capacity building and provide opportunities for continuous learning, professional training and certifications that will make our members more competent locally and internationally,” Abdullahi said.

He stressed the need for mentorship, especially for younger engineers, noting that today’s graduates required guidance and platforms to grow into leaders of tomorrow.

“The younger engineers must not be left without direction. Mentorship is a duty, not an option. We will create platforms where they can find guidance, nurture their ideas and grow into leaders,” Abdullahi said.

He pledged that the NSE Damaturu Branch would seek partnerships with government and private stakeholders to address infrastructure, sustainable energy, climate resilience and technology adoption in Yobe.

“Our branch must be visible in the community. The people of Yobe must see engineers not only as a professional body but as partners in development,” he said.

The new chairman commended past leaders of the branch for laying a solid foundation, and urged members to unite and work collectively to sustain the legacy of mentorship, innovation and excellence.

Earlier, Engr. Aliyu Sabi, the immediate past Chairman of the branch, highlighted the achievements of his tenure, including membership growth, professional development programmes and partnerships with government agencies on infrastructure projects.

In his goodwill message, Mr. Rajab Ismail, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yobe Council, urged the new leadership to ensure effective monitoring of engineering projects in the state for quality assurance and public safety.
