Yobe Govt. recovers 108 rustled cattle in 2 years
The Yobe State Government Standing Committee on Recovery of Rustled Cattle and other Livestock has recovered 108 cattle in the state in two years.
Retired Brig.-Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam, the Committee’s Chairman, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu on Wednesday.
He said that the straying animals were recovered by a special team of the Nigerian Army personnel and local hunters.
The chairman said 60 of the cattle were rustled in Dukku in Gombe and recovered in Gujba, Yobe, adding that the committee had since traced the genuine owner and handed over the animals to him.
Abdulsalam, who doubled as Gov. Mai Mala Buni’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, said on Sept.18, 48 rustled cattle were recovered between Mafa and Sassawa in Tarmuwa and Damaturu Local Government Areas.
He called on the owners of the straying animals to approach the committee with genuine proof of ownership to claim their property.
The chairman lauded Buni for recently acquiring and presenting 47 operational vehicles and 50 motorcycles to various security agencies in a bid to enhance their operations in the state.
Abdulsalam commended the governor for directing Council’s Chairmen to ensure the maintenance of the vehicles in their areas and regularly provide funds for fuelling.
“All the benefitting agencies will henceforth act proactively rather than being reactionary. We will not tolerate any situation report that only reports occurrences of incidents.
“Rather, we shall expect situation reports of proactive measures taken to ensure security and safety of our communities,” he emphasised.
The chairman also thanked Buni for supporting retired heads of security agencies, especially a former Controller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mr N Dashe, who was recently attacked by bandits.
Abdulsalam listed other supports provided by Buni to include the allocation of 12 hectares of land for the construction of a housing estate in the state under the Armed Forces Casualty Trust Fund.
Others are donation of 400 bags of grains to the families of falling heroes, construction of police outposts at Bukar Abba Ibrahim Estate and Maiduguri by-pass as well as provision and furnishing of office accommodations and residences of security heads.
He said that the governor had sponsored no fewer than 20 senior civil servants and security officials for training at Defence Intelligence College, the National Institute of Security Studies, and the National Army Resource Centre, among others.
“ Just yesterday, he approved for 16 officers to attend a leadership course on Operation Security and Force Protection.
“ The beneficiaries are the Nigeria police, DSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and senior civilian staff from relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs),” Abdulsalam said.
The chairman said that Yobe was the first state in the federation to subscribe to the Fellow of the Security Institute (FSI) at the Nigeria Institute of Security Studies (NISS).
He said that from 2022 to date, Buni had sponsored six top government officials to attend a one-year course at the NISS, which led to their award of FSI qualification.
