The Bauchi State Government, in collaboration with OXFAM and other key stakeholders, has launched the Climate Caravan, an initiative designed to raise awareness and promote practical solutions to combat the growing effects of climate change across the state.

The event, held on Monday at the Emir’s Palace, Bauchi, brought together traditional rulers, civil society groups, and international development partners committed to environmental sustainability.

Speaking during the launch, the State Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Hon. Danlami Ahmed Kawule, described the Climate Caravan as a call to urgent action, highlighting the severe impact of climate change on the state.

“Bauchi is already facing the realities of climate change, including erratic rainfall, destructive floods, prolonged droughts, and rising health risks.

“Climate change is not a distant issue to be discussed only at global summits it is happening here and now, threatening our farms, homes, and communities.

“This caravan will travel across the state to educate, engage, and inspire collective action for a sustainable future.”Kawule said.

Kawule urged industries and major polluters to adopt cleaner technologies and cut emissions while encouraging citizens to take simple yet impactful steps such as planting trees, reducing waste, and conserving water.

In his remarks, Dr. Kenneth Akpan, Project Manager of Climate Justice at OXFAM, stressed the need for a robust state climate policy to tackle environmental degradation, reduce climate-related illnesses, and safeguard livelihoods.

Representing the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Adamu, Alhaji Bala Adamu advocated mass tree planting as a natural and effective solution to environmental challenges, calling on communities to support the initiative.

The Climate Caravan will tour communities across Bauchi State, promoting grassroots awareness and inspiring local action against climate change.
