
Bauchi assembly confirms Hadiza Kango, Idris as commissioner, Auditor-General

The Bauchi State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Hajiya Hadiza Abdulkadir Kango as a member of the State Executive Council, following her screening during plenary on Wednesday.
The lawmakers also confirmed Babaji Idris Shehu as the substantive Auditor-General for Local Governments after adopting the report of the House Committee on Public Accounts, chaired by Mubarak Haruna.
Meanwhile, the House granted a five-day extension to the Committee on Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs to conclude and submit its pending report.
In another development, the Assembly adopted the interim report of its Ad-hoc Committee on the Creation and Restoration of Local Government Areas.
Presenting the report, Deputy Speaker and Committee Chairman, Jamilu Umaru Dahiru, disclosed that the committee received 40 memoranda from various communities advocating for new or restored LGAs.
He added that no petition or protest was recorded, describing the process as peaceful and widely accepted.
Dahiru explained that the committee would proceed to the next phase visiting the affected communities to verify claims, assess realities, and analyze submissions within two weeks.
He also recommended that every lawmaker be involved in the process within their constituencies to ensure inclusivity.
In her post-confirmation remarks, Hajiya Hadiza Kango pledged to focus on tackling sexual violence, child abuse, and street hawking while promoting women’s empowerment and child development.
She expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for her appointment, assuring of her commitment to support the administration’s “My New Bauchi” vision and to champion the protection of women and children across the state.
