Geidam Community Hails Smooth ITN Card Distribution, Commends Government, Partners
By Ahmed Isah
The Bulama of Kolo Banga Ward in Geidam Local Government Area, Malam Kolo Aisami, has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing distribution of Insecticide-Treated Net (ITN) cards in his community, describing the exercise as smooth and well-coordinated.
Aisami told our Correspondent in Geidam Thursday that the activity has been progressing without hitches, adding that residents have fully embraced the campaign.
He commended the distribution teams for their diligence and professionalism, noting that they were carrying out their assignments effectively and in line with campaign guidelines.
“I am very happy with the way the exercise is going on in my community. The teams are doing exactly what they are supposed to do, and everything is peaceful and orderly,” he said.
The traditional ruler applauded the Yobe State Government, the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), and other implementing partners for their commitment to the malaria prevention campaign.
He also appealed for similar coordination and calmness during the forthcoming distribution of mosquito nets to ensure that every household receives its due benefit.
“I urge our people to maintain the same level of cooperation when the actual net distribution begins. We want it to be as coordinated and peaceful as what we are witnessing now,” Aisami added.
Similarly, the Health Promotion Officer (HPO) of Geidam Local Government, Malam Umar Zarami, confirmed that the ITN card distribution exercise was progressing smoothly across the council.
Zarami said the campaign, which forms part of Yobe’s integrated malaria prevention effort, was being implemented with support from the Global Fund and technical assistance from the Malaria Consortium.
He said there had been no major challenges or obstacles since the commencement of the exercise, commending all distribution teams for their dedication and commitment to ensuring full coverage.
“The distribution is going on freely and peacefully. I commend our field teams for their hard work and the community members for their cooperation,” he said.
Zarami urged households that are yet to receive their ITN cards to remain patient, assuring them that every registered home would be reached before the exercise concludes.
He also advised households that had already collected their cards to keep them safe, explaining that the cards are the only valid documents for redeeming mosquito nets during the main distribution phase.
“Beneficiaries must ensure they present their ITN cards at the collection points; without the cards, they will not be able to receive the nets,” Zarami emphasised.
He commended the Yobe State Government and partners for sustaining malaria prevention interventions across the state, describing the initiative as a “right step in the right direction.”
Our Correspondent reports that the ongoing ITN card distribution is part of the statewide integrated malaria prevention campaign, which combines Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) and ITN interventions to curb malaria transmission, particularly among pregnant women and children under five.
