Bauchi Police rescue abducted siblings in Jos, crack down on motorcycle theft syndicate

The Bauchi State Police Command has rescued two abducted children and arrested their kidnapper who shockingly turned out to be a family member of the victims.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmad Muhammad Wakil, on Saturday in Bauchi

He said the incident occurred on Thursday, October 23, when one Aliyu Hamisu of Tilden Fulani, Toro Local Government Area, reported that his two children Halima Hamisu, aged 12, and Mohammed Aliyu Hamisu, aged 6 were kidnapped while waiting for their school bus.

“Following the report, detectives led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kisaba Rimamnyang, immediately launched an investigation.

“Preliminary findings revealed that the children were taken away by a man on a tricycle. Later that day, the kidnapper demanded a ₦50 million ransom but later settled for ₦1.2 million to be delivered at Farmers Motors Junction, Bauchi.

“Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives apprehended the suspect while attempting to collect the ransom,” he said

Wakil further said investigation led to the rescue of the children in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos, Plateau State.

“The suspect, identified as Abdulkarim Tasiu, a relative of the victims, confessed to the crime, citing long-standing family grudges as his motive,” he said.

The Spokesman in a related development, said the Command also arrested two motorcycle theft suspects Ibrahim Muhammad Rabiu and Abdulrahman Ibrahim recovering two stolen motorcycles worth over ₦350,000.

“Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that all cases be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution,

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
