The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on key democratic institutions—the Judiciary, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the Nigeria Police to act with integrity and patriotism as the party prepares for its 2025 National Elective Convention.

This call was contained in a statement released by the Media Sub-Committee of the PDP 2025 National Convention, which warned against what it described as “covert moves” by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to frustrate the opposition through manipulation of state institutions.

According to the statement, opposition parties play a vital role in deepening democracy, but the PDP fears that the APC is allegedly using democratic pillars such as the Judiciary, INEC, and law enforcement agencies to perpetuate its dominance and suppress dissenting voices.

The party expressed concern that the APC may be plotting to use legal and political maneuvers to delay or disrupt the convention scheduled for November.

It accused “inter and intra-party destructive elements” of working in concert with external forces to destabilize the PDP from within, warning that “nemesis will catch up with them sooner than later.”

The statement further alleged that such tactics are part of a broader plan to manipulate the 2027 general elections and entrench a one-party system.

The PDP urged the new INEC Chairman and the Nigeria Police to discharge their duties without fear or favor, emphasizing that their actions could determine the fate of Nigeria’s democracy.

Reaffirming its unity and resilience, the PDP urged members to remain steadfast, reject internal sabotage, and protect the party’s legacy of democratic governance.

The statement also recalled the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan as an era marked by inclusivity, economic stability, and national unity.

Reacting, Alhaji Ahmad Isa Tahir, an APC stakeholder and former Bauchi State legislator, dismissed the allegations as baseless.

He said the PDP’s problems are self-inflicted, stemming from internal divisions, and maintained that the APC remains confident of victory in the 2027 elections.
