NYFF trains Northeast grantees on accountability, transparency
The Nigeria Youth Future Fund (NYFF) has commenced a two-day capacity-building workshop for its grantees across the North-East aimed at strengthening accountability, transparency, and effective project implementation.
Alhaji Modu Mu’azu, Chief Executive Officer, Spotlight for Transparency and Accountability, disclosed this at the opening of the workshop on Tuesday in Damaturu.
Mu’azu said the programme was part of the NYFF 2025 Fund, supported by LEAP Africa, with funding from the MacArthur Foundation, Ford Foundation, and Luminate.
He said the training was designed for catalyst, development, and individual grantees drawn from Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe states.
“As a catalyst grantee, our role is to provide leadership and technical support to both the development and individual grantees across the North-East,” he said.
Mu’azu explained that the workshop focused on system strengthening, regulatory compliance, and effective project delivery, adding that experts in organisational development were engaged to facilitate the sessions.
“At the end of this training, grantees are expected to establish structures that will help manage their grants efficiently and sustain their civic engagement initiatives in their respective states.
“For individual grantees, the aim is to enable them to set up their own organisations that will promote civic participation and youth engagement in governance,” he added.
According to him, the NYFF initiative was conceptualised to empower young Nigerians to mobilise for social change and contribute to governance reform in the country.
He said the programme supported projects in thematic areas such as peace and security, governance, health, education, and civic engagement.
“In our organisation, we focus on strengthening local government accountability, while others work on peacebuilding, civic participation, and health-related projects.
“The end goal is to ensure sustainable civic engagement across the country through youth-led initiatives,” Mu’azu said.
Also speaking, Miss Asma’u Ahmad Yaro, an advisory board member of NYFF, said the workshop was designed to enhance the capacity of grantees in accountability, transparency, and project documentation.
She said the objective was to ensure that beneficiaries not only implement their projects but do so effectively and sustainably.
“This workshop will equip participants with the knowledge to manage their projects properly and contribute meaningfully to building the Nigeria we want,” Yaro said.
She urged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the training to their projects and ensure continuous engagement in civic development.
She said the two-day event would end on Tuesday.
