The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has commenced the construction of a 25-kilometre asphalt overlay road linking Buni-Yadi to Magza in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
During the official site handover, the NEDC State Coordinator, Mr Ali Abbas, said the project demonstrated the Commission’s commitment to rebuilding critical infrastructure and improving regional connectivity under the North-East Stabilisation and Development Master Plan.
He explained that the project, awarded to Grayland Multiple Investment Limited, is expected to be completed within 12 months and falls under Pillar 7 and Pillar 11 of the Master Plan, which focus on purposeful infrastructure and a connected region.
“The Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through the leadership of the NEDC Managing Director, Mr Mohammed Goni Alkali, and in collaboration with the North-East governors, is working to fast-track infrastructural renewal across the sub-region,” Abbas said.
He noted that the Commission had recently completed and initiated several road, bridge, and culvert projects across Yobe, including the Damaturu–Gujba bridge, and ongoing constructions at Jumbam, Kaliyari, Tandari, and Potiskum.
According to him, the NEDC will continue to conduct needs assessments in partnership with the state government to identify priority areas for new interventions.
Yobe Commissioner for Works, Engr Umar Wakili, described the Buni-Yadi–Magza road as one of the state’s most strategic routes, linking major agricultural and commercial communities.
“This road will greatly enhance access for farmers, traders, and transporters in the southern part of the state. It will also complement government efforts to boost food production and rural development,” Wakili said.
He praised the NEDC for its consistent support and commended the choice of a local contractor familiar with the terrain, expressing confidence in the timely completion of the project.
The Managing Director of Grayland Multiple Investment Ltd., Mr Musa Abubakar Imam, pledged to deliver quality work within schedule.
“Our team has the experience and technical capacity to complete this 25-kilometre phase on time. We are also ready to take up additional phases as the Commission may direct,” Imam stated.
The Buni-Yadi–Magza road forms part of NEDC’s broader infrastructure intervention to restore connectivity, support economic recovery, and promote sustainable development across the North-East region.
