Minister of livestock inaugurates ultramodern Veterinary Hospital in Adamawa

The Minister for livestock development, Alhaji Idi Maiha, on Tuesday inaugurated an ultramodern Veterinary Hospital in Yola-North Local Government Areas for livestock development in the state and the country at large.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the hospital was constructed by the World Bank through the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) under the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.
The minister said that the facility ushered in a new chapter for animals’ health service delivery not only in the state but the country.
“The administration of President Bola Tinubu means business, there is no more neglect in livestock.
“Mr President deemed it fit last year to create the ministry for livestock development for the first time in 64 years, we are here today as a testimony to that statement,” Maiha said.
He said through L-PRES they had unveiled and equipped seven model veterinary hospitals in Adamawa, Sokoto, Enugu, Niger, Ondo, Edo and Borno.
Maiha said that additional 14 veterinary hospitals in various states were at various stages of completion, making a total of 21 veterinary hospitals in the L-PRES participating states.
He called on the veterinary officers to be core professionals and ensure the judicious use of the facilities for maximum benefit.
In his remarks, Dr Sanusi Abubakar, the National Coordinator, L-PRES, explained that the hospital had been equipped with modern facilities to promote animal health and improve productivity.
“The hospital will reduce mortality rates in livestock, increased productivity for pastoralists and commercial producers, Enhanced food security and new employment and training opportunities for veterinary professionals
“And ultimately, improved economic prosperity for households that depend on livestock,” he said.
According to him, a lot had been achieved which includes; ultramodern abattoirs, which are state-of-the-art, equipped with up-to-date waste management and recycling facilities in five states.
Others were more than 100 slaughter slabs built or renovated in across 20 states of the federation to stimulate growth in the beef industry
Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr Edgar Amos, called on the people in the state to take advantage of the facility to ensure that their animals were in good health.
He said this would help to achieve the objectives of creating the facility in the state.
Dr Barkindo Musdafa, Lamido of Adamawa and Grand Petron of pastrololists world-wide appreciated the Federal Government’s commitment on transforming the livestock sector in the country.
He said that as a leader, he would continue doing his best to sensitise livestock farmers to the need to take advantage of the initiative, among others.
