By Ahmed Isah
The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has extended its end-of-year humanitarian support to inmates of the Medium Security Custodial Centres in Gashua and Nguru, Yobe State.
The intervention, aimed at supporting inmates ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, involved the distribution of food and non-food items to the facilities.
The Yobe State Coordinator of NEDC, Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, alongside the Yobe State Controller of Corrections, Mr Ortsergah J. Terver, led the delivery to the custodial centres.

Abbas said the exercise was designed to improve the dignity, welfare and happiness of inmates in correctional facilities across the state.
He said the commission remained committed to supporting vulnerable groups and exploring additional areas of assistance within the custodial system.
The Chairman of Bade Local Government Area, Ibrahim Babagana (Yurema), and his Nguru counterpart, Muhammad Mairami, commended NEDC for the timely intervention.
They described the support as impactful, particularly during the festive and harmattan period, and urged sustained collaboration.
Terver expressed optimism that the donated items would help address some challenges faced by inmates.

He thanked NEDC and the Yobe State Government for their continued support and assured that the items would be prudently utilised by the command.
