The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Bauchi State, Mr. Hassan Haruna, has dismissed claims of his suspension from office, describing them as the handiwork of impostors and disgruntled elements allegedly contracted to create internal crisis within the party.

Haruna made this known at a news conference on Sunday in Bauchi, where he reacted to a press briefing allegedly held on Saturday, January 17, 2025, by Aminu Muhammad and Babayo Musa Garba, who claimed they had suspended him over alleged anti-party activities.

According to Haruna, the individuals lacked the legitimacy to speak for the party, insisting that there is a clear constitutional process for removing any party official.

“You cannot wake up overnight and claim to have suspended a duly elected chairman. That is not how democracy works,” he said.

He stated that his emergence as chairman followed a duly conducted state congress recognized across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, stressing that the ADC coalition was open and inclusive, aimed at strengthening democracy and providing relief to Nigerians suffering under the current system.

The Bauchi ADC chairman further alleged that the move was a desperate attempt to destabilize the growing popularity and unity of the party in the state. He disclosed that Aminu Muhammad is an expelled member, while Babayo Musa Garba remains suspended, as contained in letters dated January 2, 2026.

He also dismissed claims about the existence of an ALGON structure within the party, saying no such body is recognized by ADC.

Haruna reaffirmed that the party has duly recognized chairmen across all the 20 local government areas of Bauchi State and urged party members and the public to disregard what he described as misleading statements.

He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to take note of the development.

In his response, Aminu Muhammad who was the ADC Chairman in Bauchi LGA insisted that Haruna was not legally acting as chairman, claiming he had not received any formal expulsion letter and arguing that due process must be followed in disciplining party members.
