The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Bauchi State has entered a new phase of leadership transition following the formal assumption of office by Alhaji Mahmood Hassan Tabla as Acting State Chairman.

Tabla announced his takeover during a stakeholders’ and press briefing on Tuesday in Bauchi

He cited constitutional provisions and recent disciplinary actions taken against the former chairman, Mallam Hassan Haruna.

He explained that chairmen across the 20 local government areas had earlier constituted a disciplinary committee which queried Haruna over alleged anti-party activities, including creating factions and recognising parallel executives contrary to the ADC constitution.

According to Tabla, Haruna failed to respond to the query or utilise the 14-day appeal window, prompting his suspension and eventual removal through Circular No. BA/01/003/2026, which directed the deputy chairman to assume leadership.

Tabla further disclosed that the dispute had moved to court, noting that the Bauchi State High Court on Feb. 4 granted an interim injunction restraining Haruna and others from parading themselves as ADC executives, with the case adjourned to Feb. 19 for hearing.

He accused the removed chairman of issuing defamatory statements and attempting to announce new party officials outside constitutional procedures, actions he said undermined internal democracy and freedom of association.

The acting chairman said national party leaders had previously intervened through a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja led by Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri and Alhaji Kashim Imam, but reconciliation efforts were unsuccessful.

Looking ahead, Tabla revealed that the ADC national headquarters had approved a membership drive and expansion team to strengthen the party in Bauchi ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He assured members of fairness, constitutional compliance and collaboration with security agencies, stakeholders and the media to sustain peace and participatory democracy within the party.
