Emir honours Buni with Dikuma title in Funakaye
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has been turbaned as the Dikuma of Funakaye by the Emir of Funakaye, Alhaji Yakubu Muhammad Kwairanga IV.
The honour was conveyed in an appointment letter personally endorsed by the monarch, citing the governor’s “meritorious service to humanity” and contributions to societal development.
Community members in Funakaye described the conferment as a gesture of appreciation for projects and policies that have impacted livelihoods across the area.
Some residents who spoke in separate interviews said the title reflected traditional institutions’ recognition of public service and leadership.
Buni, a holder of the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), has previously received several traditional titles across different emirates within and outside Yobe.
The titles include Ciroman Gujba, Walin Damaturu, Zannah Yaudima of Ngelzarma, Baraden Fika, Zannah Gadama of Machina, Sardaunan Fune, Matawalle of Gudi and Yeriman Potiskum.
Observers note that the conferment of traditional titles remains a cultural mechanism through which communities acknowledge leadership and strengthen ties between government and traditional institutions.
In a message of goodwill, the emirate council expressed hope that the recognition would further consolidate cooperation toward peace and development in Funakaye Local Government Area and the state at large.
