NGO advocates girl-child education in Yobe

Connected Development (CODE), a Non-Governmental Organisation, sponsored by Malala Fund, advocated the importance of girl-child education in Yobe.

Mr Muhammad Kime, the Chief Operation, Officer Spot Light, explained some of the benefits of girl-child education at a Town Hall Meeting on Thursday in Damaturu.

He said every girl should be allowed to complete her full 12 year cycle of education, six years in primary and six years in secondary school.

Girl-child education, according to him, paved way for economic growth poverty reduction among the people.

“Equitable access to quality education particularly for girls is a key strategy for sustaining peace and security.

“If all girls had access to primary education, child marriages will be reduced to the bearest minimum.

“If all women in Nigeria completed their secondary education, the country will lower the mortality rate for children under five years old by 43 per cent,” he said.

Kime also called on all the stakeholders to assist Yobe government in its efforts to promote girl-child education in the state.
