The Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, on Friday, received a delegation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for a resource inspection and accreditation exercise.

Our Correspondent reports that the exercise aimed at evaluating and expanding the institution’s academic offerings.

The team, which includes resource persons drawn from various institutions, was received by the Rector, Dr Ibrahim Bashir, alongside principal officers of the polytechnic.

Addressing the team, Dr Bashir reaffirmed the institution’s readiness for the exercise, stressing that the polytechnic boasts a rich history of compliance and successful engagements with the Board.

“With over 30 years of experience, we have built capacity in staffing, infrastructure, and digital innovation to meet NBTE standards.

“This exercise will further position us to deliver quality technical education that is nationally competitive,” he said.

The rector noted that the successful outcome of the exercise would significantly benefit the institution.

He added that the polytechnic was seeking accreditation for 60 academic programmes, reaccreditation for 35, and resource verification for 25 new programmes, including Mass Communication.

Dr Bashir said the expansion would enhance the institution’s capacity to admit more students, diversify its academic portfolio, and produce skilled graduates in line with the Federal Government’s industrialisation drive.

In her remarks, the NBTE team leader, Dr Fatima Umar, commended the polytechnic for the warm reception and its visible commitment to academic excellence.

She emphasised the Board’s dedication to maintaining quality assurance, saying, “Our mission is to ensure that institutions meet the required standards, especially in this digital age.

“We are particularly impressed by the digital tools already deployed here,” she said

According to her, the team would conduct detailed assessments of facilities, staffing, and instructional materials, with special attention to the polytechnic’s newly introduced digital-based programmes.
We also reports that the exercise, which will span several days, is expected to culminate in increased programme approvals, enhanced institutional ranking, and improved employability for graduates of the polytechnic.
