By Ahmed Ahmed
The Bauchi State House of Assembly has called for improved immunization services and a reduction of zero-dose areas across the state.
Mr. Lawal Dauda, Chairman of the House Committee on Health, made the call during a joint Community of Practice (CoP) State Zero Dose Learning Hub Legislative oversight visit to selected facilities in Ganjuwa Local Government Area on Friday.
The exercise was supported by the African Health Budget Network (AHBN).
Dauda stressed the need for stakeholders to strengthen border synchronization when planning and executing immunization activities with neighbouring Jigawa and Gombe States.
He also urged the CoP to advocate for the provision of motorcycles and logistics for local immunization supervisors, community resource groups, and the absorption of trained volunteers into the state’s health system.
The lawmakers pledged to engage relevant authorities at the highest level to address identified challenges.
On his part Mr. Jinjiri Garba, CoP Co-Chairman,commended the facilities visited but noted the need to close existing gaps to further improve immunization coverage.
The team observed significant infrastructure upgrades, including the installation of additional cold chain equipment, partly achieved through CoP advocacy.
They also reported improvements in service delivery despite ongoing renovations at the Kafin Liman facility.
Dr. Hassan Shuaibu Musa, AHBN State Focal Person, said the oversight aimed to ensure Immunization Financing Accountability.
He praised the Assembly’s role in allocating and ensuring the release of ₦872 million for 2025 immunization activities, while conveying the appreciation of AHBN National Coordinator, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, and other stakeholders.
Earlier, Malam Ibrahim Adamu and other LGA officials guided the team through inspections of solar-powered cold chain systems, immunization record harmonization, financial management under Basic Health Care Provision Fund and the 2025 work plan.
Our correspondent reports that the oversight team included House Committee Chairmen Mohammed Wanzam (Appropriation), Ahmed Maikudi (Food Security and Nutrition), and Garba Adamu (Ganjuwa West).
