Yobe Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) has commenced pre-Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) engagement with Project Affected Persons (PAPs) in Buniyadi, Gujba Local Government Area, in preparation for the full implementation of the RAP for the 2.83km Buniyadi gully erosion/flood control design.

The pre-RAP assessment aims to address any issues raised by PAPs before the project’s formal commencement, ensuring that all concerns are resolved.

Shehu Mohammed, ACReSAL State Project Coordinator, emphasised that no civil work can begin without full compensation, in line with World Bank environmental and social standards.

Usman Mohammed Inuwa, the Social Livelihood Officer, highlighted the importance of adhering to ACReSAL’s safeguard instruments for successful project execution.

He noted that public disclosure had already been conducted, and any issues raised at that time were addressed. This pre-RAP engagement aims to prevent further grievances and facilitate smooth operations for contractors.

Dala Mala, Executive Chairman of Gujba Local Government Area, commended the Yobe State government’s efforts to address the serious environmental threat facing the community.

The SPMU team, along with contractors and consultants, conducted a site visit to the proposed gully sites in Buniyadi and Bunigari.
