By Ahmed Abba
In a bold move to unlock its demographic potential, Yobe State has organized a three-day training workshop in collaboration with the Lafiya UK Programme and the National Population Commission (NPC).
The workshop, held in Dutse, Jigawa State, brought together policymakers, experts, and civil society representatives to strategize on leveraging the demographic dividend for sustainable development.
According to Mr. Iyawa Dufanda Madagwa, Yobe’s State Director of the NPC, the workshop aimed to equip participants with the tools to educate communities about the demographic dividend and identify strategies to implement this agenda effectively in Yobe.
The workshop underscored a collaborative approach, with various stakeholders pledging their commitment.
Al-Sheik Mustapha Damaturu, Director of Planning at the Yobe House of Assembly, highlighted the Assembly’s role in enacting supportive policies and engaging with stakeholders to drive this agenda forward.
Key areas of focus included reducing maternal mortality, increasing access to family planning, and improving education.
Malama Asma’u Bukar Jumbam from Yobe’s Ministry of Health stressed that health plays a pivotal role in enabling families to make informed decisions for sustainable development.
Representatives of Civil Society Organizations also pledged their support. Muhammed Baba Kuchichi and Muhammed Annur vowed to intensify efforts to advocate for the DD agenda and ensure its successful implementation.
The workshop concluded on day 2, with a shared commitment from all stakeholders to invest in education, health, family planning, and job creation. Thus, prioritizing these areas, Yobe State is poised to harness its demographic potential and pave the way for economic growth and social development.
As Yobe embarks on this transformative journey, it sets an inspiring example for other regions aiming to turn demographic challenges into opportunities for a brighter future.
