The North-East Youth Initiative for Development (NEYIF) with funding from Save the Children International (SCI) has empowered 50 youths with various small-scale business skills and startup kits in Yobe State.
Comrade Dauda Muhammed Gombe, the Executive Director of NEYIF, said this at the graduation and handing-over ceremony of the skills acquisition items to the youths in Damaturu on Friday.
Gombe said NEYIF is a national organisation working across Nigeria to support humanitarian development and peace-building initiatives.
“What is happening today is a graduation and handing over ceremonies of skills acquisition items, meant for the youth who have been trained on different skills over the last couple of weeks.
“This is part of our ongoing activities known as the HDP Nexus, a programme aimed at providing a holistic approach to solutions to the problems that affect our communities,” he said.
He urged the beneficiaries to take ownership of their future by way of sustaining the programme and engaging other people in the programme.
He said at the end of one year, each beneficiary is expected to also train at least five others so that there will be 250 beneficiaries at the end,” Gombe added.
While commending the participants for their cooperation and dedication, facilitators called on the participants to appreciate the organisers.
They also called on the beneficiaries to commit to the skills they have learnt during the training session and to avoid diverting the startup kits given to them.
Malama Hafsat Abubakar expressed appreciation to the organisers and the sponsors of the programme on behalf of other beneficiaries . She called on other individuals and organisations to emulate the gesture.
