The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced the assumption of duty of Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Yakubu Mohammad, FISPON, as the new Zonal Commanding Officer for Zone RS12HQ, which covers Bauchi, Borno and Yobe States.

Mohammad officially took over on Tuesday at the Zonal Headquarters in Bauchi, succeeding ACM Jeol Dagwa, who has been redeployed to the FRSC National Headquarters, Abuja, as the ACM in charge of Administration.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Zone’s Public Education Officer, Superintendent Route Commander (SRC) Nachamada Akila, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Bauchi.

In the statement, ACM Mohammad called on road users to cooperate with FRSC personnel and prioritise safety, especially as the rainy season sets in. He urged motorists to ensure proper vehicle maintenance and compliance with traffic rules across the three states under the zone.

He also appealed to officers and men of the zone to remain committed to duty, noting that under the leadership of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, the Corps will sustain a policy of consultation, reward for excellence and sanctions for misconduct.

Mohammad advised motorists to be cautious by avoiding overloading, excessive speeding, and dangerous driving, and warned against the use of rickety vehicles. He assured that the Corps remains committed to timely rescue operations and will continue to work closely with relevant stakeholders and sister security agencies to enhance road safety in the zone.

The new Zonal Commander further charged patrol personnel to shun bribery and all unethical practices, warning that erring officers and motorists who engage in such acts would face prosecution.

“The FRSC will not hesitate to discipline any staff member found compromising the ethics of the Corps. Likewise, motorists found offering bribes will not go unpunished,” the statement quoted him as saying.

Mohammad reiterated his commitment to public enlightenment, effective rescue services, and strict enforcement of traffic regulations in line with the strategic direction of the Corps Marshal.

He encouraged drivers to install and utilise the FRSC App for updates on Corps activities and to regulate their speed, adding that regular checks on eyesight and blood pressure are vital to safe driving.

The Zonal Commander also wished all motorists in Bauchi, Borno and Yobe States safe journeys.
