NBA Bauchi Chair vows ethical rebirth, pledges zero tolerance

The newly elected Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Bauchi State Branch, Mr. Rabiu Garba, pledged an uncompromising commitment to ethical reforms and professional integrity under the “Bauchi Bar Project 2025.”

Mr. Garba stated this in his inaugural address on Friday lamented the persistent decline in professional standards due to unethical practices, indiscipline, and disregard for the rules of professional conduct

“The time for business-as-usual is over. We must restore nobility to the Bar by enforcing discipline, fairness, and accountability in our ranks,” he said.

He unveiled a comprehensive reform agenda that includes establishing dedicated enforcement committees for professional conduct, remuneration compliance, and ethical standards.

“These include the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee and the Rules of Professional Conduct Enforcement Committee.

The Chairman also pledged to enforce courtroom decorum and stamp out scornful or unprofessional behaviors that bring disrepute to the profession.

Mr. Garba emphasised the need for inclusive leadership, pledging to prioritize the welfare of lawyers, especially young practitioners, through fair remuneration, legal resources, and continuous professional development.

“We have a duty to lead by example,” “The Bar must again be the noble mirror of justice in society.”Mr. Garba concluded.
