NIEPA, UNICEF reaffirms commitment to education transformation in Adamawa

The National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA-Nigeria) with partnership with UNICEF Nigeria has reaffirmed collective commitment to education transformation in Adamawa State.

Director-General/CEO, NIEPA-Nigeria stated this at the five-day training and drafting of the Adamawa State Education Sector Strategic Plan (SESP) and the State Education Sector Operational Plan (SESOP) in Gombe.

The DG represented by Dr Sunday Adegbesan, NIEPA/UNICEF Desk officer said, SESP and SESOP documents provide the blueprint through which states articulate their education vision, establish targets, and operationalize interventions within the policy and resource environment.

“Through this programme, we aim to strengthen the capacity of state technical team members to conduct sector-wide performance reviews using ESPAT.

“Translate policy priorities into measurable and costed activities in SESOP;
Integrate data-driven, gender-responsive, disability-inclusive, and crisis-sensitive strategies into SESP/SESOP.

“And to ensure that SESP and SESOP are aligned with the national development agenda and the SDG 4 framework”, he said.

Earlier, Dr Opeyemi A Oyekan, Assistant Chief Training and Research fellows
said, the objectives of the training was to develop Adamawa SESP 2026 -2035, to discuss credible data required for SESP, SESOP, ESPAT and AESPR as well as share and explain templates for SESOP and LESOP.

AbdulRahaman Ibrahim Ado, UNICEF Education Specialist Bauchi field office said, commended the effort and contributions of the participants for ensuring to have an action plan for the development of education in the state.

He said, UNICEF work to improve learning outcomes, and support data and evidence generation for the development of education so as no child will be left behind.

Ado appealed to participants to concentrate on the key actions points and timelines to enable everyone contribute for the development of the 10 year plan 2026-2035.

In his remarks, Dr Rufus Hanawa Isaiah, Deputy Director, Planning Research and Statistics, Adamawa Ministry of Education
encouraged active participation, sharing of experiences, and open discussions during training.

“We will also prioritize disability inclusion and crisis/climate change resilience in our education planning.

“Our goal is to develop a comprehensive and inclusive plan that addresses the unique challenges and opportunities in Adamawa State.

“Through collaborative efforts and expertise, we aim to create a plan that promotes quality education for all, particularly the most marginalized and vulnerable populations.

Other resource persons who provide technical skills through every step of the planning and implementation journey include, Dr Waheed Oyebamiji and Miss Ijeoma Aghudiano.
