Sen. Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has flagged off a free mass animal vaccination exercise targeting 85,000 domestic animals across the seven local government areas of his constituency.
The event, held in Gobbiya, Bogoro Local Government Area at weekend, drew the presence of traditional rulers, lawmakers, APC stakeholders, political leaders, and representatives of herders.
Speaking at the ceremony, Buba emphasised that the initiative aims to safeguard livestock health, enhance productivity, and support the livelihoods of farmers and herders.
He recalled that about 40,000 animals were vaccinated in a similar exercise last year, noting that this year’s campaign would reach more beneficiaries.
“This is one thing we owe our people both farmers and herders. They contribute greatly to our economy, and representation means delivering what is due to them at the right time,” he said.
The Sen. added that the campaign, which will run for two days in each local government area, will involve trained veterinary officers and animal health technologists working closely with community leaders and livestock owners.
Buba also announced plans to distribute fertilizers to farmers as part of his broader support for agricultural development in the district.
Alhaji Aminu Tukur, a stakeholder from Dass, Tafawa Balewa, and Bogoro Federal Constituency, urged herders to present their animals for vaccination
He called on the senator to establish a skills acquisition center and ensure the completion of the Federal road project initiated by former Speaker Yakubu Dogara.
Beneficiaries commended Senator Buba for his commitment to improving animal health and supporting livestock production.
The event also featured an awareness campaign and symbolic vaccination of some animals.
