The Bauchi Yankari Workshop Auto Mechanics Football Team recorded an emphatic 4–1 victory over the Bauchi State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in a thrilling friendly encounter at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium (ATBS) on Friday.

The match, organised to foster unity, friendship, and healthy rivalry between the two groups, drew sports enthusiasts and community members who came to witness the unusual yet entertaining clash between football-loving professionals from two very different fields.

Right from kickoff, the auto mechanics dominated proceedings with sharp passes and aggressive attacking play.

They opened the scoring in the early minutes before doubling their lead midway through the first half. The sports writers managed to pull one back before the break, giving hope of a possible comeback.

However, in the second half, the mechanics’ superior stamina and teamwork proved decisive. They netted two more goals, sealing a commanding 4–1 win and leaving their opponents struggling to keep pace.

Speaking after the match, Coach of the Auto Mechanics team Abdullahi Umar praised his players for their commitment and described the game as “more about building friendship than the scoreline.”

Chairman of SWAN Bauchi, Bala Bawaji commended both teams for their sportsmanship and assured that the friendly would become an annual fixture to promote camaraderie between sports journalists and other professional groups.

The encounter ended with smiles, handshakes, and light-hearted banter, proving that beyond the tools and the typewriters, football remains a unifying language.
