The Yobe Government has opened a two-day workshop aimed at building a sustainable procurement cadre for effective service delivery in the state civil service.

Declaring the workshop open on Wednesday in Damaturu, Alhaji Tonga Betara Bularafa, the Head of Service, said the exercise was part of ongoing reforms of the administration of Gov. Mai Mala Buni.

Bularafa said the creation of the procurement cadre was designed to strengthen due process, accountability and transparency in the management of public resources across ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

He noted that participants at the training would be deployed to MDAs to prevent financial leakages, over-invoicing and pilferages in government transactions.

“It is our hope that at the end of this workshop, participants would be well equipped with the rudiments of public financial management and procurement processes.

“Your inputs in your respective organisations are expected to induce substantial savings that could enable government to undertake other meaningful projects for the wellbeing of Yobe citizenry,” he said.

Bularafa urged resource persons to make clear and practical presentations, while enjoining participants to be punctual and attentive to maximise the benefits of the programme.

Earlier, Alhaji Shuaibu Ibrahim Amshi, Permanent Secretary (Establishment), Office of the Head of Service, said the workshop reflected the government’s commitment to equipping civil servants with modern skills for improved service delivery.

He noted that the creation of a procurement cadre in the civil service would enhance financial management and strengthen the reforms initiated by the Head of Service and approved by Gov. Buni.

Amshi congratulated the participants as the pioneer set of workers to build a career in the procurement cadre of the Yobe Civil Service, urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them through active participation.
