Dr. Abubakar Garba Iliya, President of the Government Science Secondary School Damaturu Old Students Association (DOSA), says the newly commissioned multipurpose hall will sustain the growth and revenue generation of the institution.

Iliya, who is also Executive Director, Administration and Finance at the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), stated this in Damaturu on Monday in an interview with the newsmen.

He said the 450-capacity hall was constructed by NEDC following an initiative of the DOSA leadership to give back to their alma mater.

“As alumni, many of us have excelled in various fields including law, medicine, engineering and academia. We felt it was necessary to contribute to the growth of the school that shaped us,” Iliya said.

He explained that the hall would serve dual purposes: strengthening academic and social activities within the school, and generating revenue through commercial use.

The DOSA president, who was re-elected unopposed at the association’s fourth national congress in Damaturu, said his leadership influenced the inclusion of the project in the NEDC 2025 budget under the education sector.

“Each of the six states in the North-East has an annual allocation. We ensured that this hall was reflected in the 2025 budget, and today it is a reality,” he said.

On future plans, Iliya said NEDC would continue to operate a demand-driven approach by prioritising projects based on the needs of state governments, communities and partners.

He listed ongoing projects to include bridges in Gulani and Tarmuwa Local Government Areas, road construction in Karasuwa, and water supply and health interventions in several communities.

Iliya also urged current students of GSS Damaturu to remain disciplined and focused on their studies, stressing that discipline was the foundation of success.

“Discipline shaped us, and I urge the students to emulate that culture both at home and in school. With discipline, they can surpass our achievements,” he said.

The DOSA congress, held from Oct. 3 to Oct. 5, attracted more than 300 delegates and featured the commissioning of the multipurpose hall named after the school’s pioneer principal, late Mr. Wutama Bulama Samba.

Those elected as DOSA national executive members were Col. Kaumi Zanna (rtd.) as Vice President, Wakil Adamu as National Coordinator, Alhaji Bukar Kime as General Secretary among others.
