Adamawa to establish modern NYSC camp — Fintiri
By Ibrahim Kado
Adamawa State Government has concluded arrangements to establish a fully equipped permanent NYSC orientation camp, a modern facility intended to enhance training, accommodation and overall welfare for corps members deployed to the state.
Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri announced the plan during the swearing-in ceremony for 2025 Batch C corps members at Damare orientation camp, Girei Local Government Area, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting youth development.
Represented by Deputy Governor Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, Fintiri confirmed contractors would soon be mobilised to site, adding that the new camp was expected to be completed within six months after construction officially began.
He explained that the new facility would meet modern standards by providing expanded hostel blocks, improved lecture halls and upgraded health centres designed to ensure corps members received adequate support throughout their orientation programme.
According to him, the camp will also feature better water supply, reliable power, strengthened security infrastructure and increased accommodation capacity to effectively cater to the rising number of corps members deployed to the state.
Fintiri said the project aligned with Adamawa’s broader vision to strengthen youth empowerment, promote national integration and maintain high living and training standards, ensuring corps members experienced the best possible environment throughout their service year.
He assured the gathering that the new camp would serve as a model for Nigeria, while urging corps members to participate actively in skill acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes designed to improve employability and support long-term economic stability.
Fintiri noted that skill acquisition programmes could empower participants to become employers of labour, developing self-reliance and contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s economy through innovation, productivity and commitment to community-based development projects during and after service.
Adamawa NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Osoroh Caroline, said 1,886 corps members were expected in the state, adding that 1,060 had been registered, and urged them to uphold loyalty, discipline, patriotism, dedication and respect for constituted authority.
Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wali Yakubu, encouraged corps members to engage fully in camp activities, advising them to embrace hard work, adhere to safety guidelines and strive for outstanding performance that could earn automatic employment opportunities.
